DOTDOT.London prove the concept of location-based VR with an immersive theatre twist

VR is a devisive topic right now, leaving people to decide between joining the 'VR is the future' camp and the 'VR is a fad' crew. Although I am personally more excited about the potential that AR / MR has for changing the world, I would still whole-heartedly put myself in the first camp, VR IS the future. We can already see VR having an impact across a wide range of verticals from hazardous training through the engineering and remote design reviews (and we will be going in-depth into each of these verticals over the coming months here in our new blog.)

China and the US have really pioneered the way and we've seen VR arcades pop up in cities all over the globe. Many of these are based on off-the-shelf consumer technology and leverage Steam Site License content. Larger installs such as, Zero Latency, The Void and Ellipsis offer bespoke VR experiences for up to six players at a time, to explore a new world using passive and active tracking technologies developed by
OptiTrack. We recently helped deliver one of these installs for Somnai.
Recently, The Void has even established a temporary pop-up ‘ride’ in Westfield shopping centres in London, showing the new Star Wars content and giving many their first taste of the future of location-based entertainment. With these big players paving the way I'm excited to see what comes out over the next 12 months to tie in with the new 4k Vive Pro HMDs. Watch this space!
