Offering a world-first approach to collaboration in defence solutions, the UK Defence Solutions Council (UKDSC) works closely with the UK’s Department for International Trade, Defence and Security Organisation, the UK Government and the best of the defence industry and academia. Keeping technology up to date is paramount in helping them stay ahead of the game.
The issue: The UKDSC needed to update their tech by bringing all their computer hardware up to date and by adding VR headsets for use in their Innovation & Collaborative Engagement Lab (ICE Lab), in which they provide simulations and demos to clients and industry partners.
Knowing that a large part of the budget would be taken up by the hardware install, the improvement of the existing projection and mounting set up was paramount, whilst ensuring it became more fit for purpose.
The solution: Target3D provided high-end workstations with GTX graphics card and Vive Pro Virtual Reality System headsets with new light house sensors to enable enhanced demos in the ICE Lab. Taking into account the existing projection set up, a hardware projection screen blending and warping solution was installed along with a video matrix switch and integrated touch panel control system.
A better user experience
As a result of the upgraded tech and lab refresh, UKDSC has seen an increased usage of The ICE Lab as it offers a better user experience, with the AV solution demonstrating how BYOD can work in such a space.
Installation was followed up with support each step of the way with UKDSC noting that Target3D provided great communication for delivery and install, good support and a neat and tidy install, with Grant Anderson ICE Lab Manager saying, “The lab is now more usable for our internal UKDSC team and up to date in terms of latest VR technology for the respective demonstrations used onsite.”
